After over 60 years of not knowing any results, except the winner, the full results of the 1956 Eurovision Song Contest have been announced this morning, confirming that Switzerland won by 1 point over Fud Leclerc (Belgium) and Walter Andreas Schwarz (Germany).

Up until now, there have been many attempts to calculate the original results by asking the 14 jury members individually which song they voted for, however, every attempt had been unsuccessful due to the fact that either some jury members are no longer alive or if they were alive, they'd just forgot who they voted for.

However, in the early hours of this morning, a family member of the 1956 executive supervisor, Rolf Liebermann, contacted us to tell us that they had discovered the results of the 1956 contest on a small piece of paper in Liebermann's attic. The family member, who wishes to remain nameless, sent a copy of the paper that contained the full voting grid and the points scored by each song in the contest. By looking at the voting grid, we can see that the voting system for the 1956 contest was each juror (two for each country) awarded 1 point each to their two favourite songs (jurors could also vote for their own country, if they wished to do so).

Below, we can exclusively reveal the results of the 1956 contest, which up to now have been unknown to everyone.

1. Lys Assia - Refrain - Switzerland - 5 points

8. Mathe Altery - Le temps perdu - France - 1 point

8. France Raimondi - Aprite le finestre - Italy - 1 point

8. Corry Brokken - Voorgoed voorbij - Netherlands - 1 point

8. Freddy Quinn - So geht das jede Nacht - Germany - 1 point

8. Dany Dauberson - Il est là - France - 1 point

8. Tonina Torrielli - Amami se vuoi - Italy - 1 point

14. Michele Arnaud - Les amants de minuit - Luxembourg - 0 points

In the image below, we have also re-created the voting grid that was found on the paper.

As you can see, both the Swiss and Luxembourg jurors awarded Refrain with the maximum two points, with the German jury awarding Refrain 1 point. The voting grid also shows that every country voted for their own entry, with the exception of Luxembourg, who failed to award their second entry Les amants de minuit any point. As no other country awarded the song points, it meant that this song was the first every song to score 'nul points' in Eurovision.

We contacted the EBU for a response on this matter but we are still awaiting a reply.

What's your thoughts? Are you happy with the results of the songs or were your favourites placed low down the leaderboard? Let us know in the comments!
