With the hype of Eurovision Asia creeping in on us I decided as the only Australian national on the team to devise a list of the acts I'd love to see represent my home country one day in the Eurovision Song Contest or the Asian edition! I took it from a perspective of a local Australian, being realistic about who would even consider singing for Australia or participating in a national final! So don't expect to see the likes of Sia or Kylie Minogue included, because lets be realistic it'll probably never happen no matter how hard we wish! Here is the list of 16 acts we love to represent Australia

1. Samantha Jade

Samantha Jade is an ARIA Award-winning Australian most popular singer, songwriter, actress and former child model from Perth, Western Australia. She has written tracks for artists including JoJo and Ashley Tisdale. On 20 November 2012 Jade won the fourth season of The X-Factor Australia, the first woman to win the Australian series. Samantha is very much central to an electronic beat and her most well-known songs “Soldier” “What You’ve Done to Me” feature those sounds very heavily! Samantha’s soaring vocals and her amazing stage presence and usual staging are, much needed for Australian success, be not surprised if she became our next representative! Listen to Samantha’s song “What You’ve Done to Me” below!

2. Bonnie Anderson

In 2007, when she was just 12 years old, Bonnie Anderson won the inaugural season of Australia’s Got Talent! However instead of immediately starting a solo career the pop singer decided to just be a kid and hone her song writing skills. She learnt a lot about the music industry while on tour with Aussie rock legend Jimmy Barnes as his backing vocalist. In 2013 she released he first single “Raise the Bar” the sunny-pop sound gave way to a darker style of pop in 2014’s follow up “Blackout” which was a smash success in Australia! She since released “Ones I Love” a 90’s house anthem and the uplifting “Unbroken” Something like “Blackout” would serve Bonnie well at Eurovision/ Eurovision Asia! Listen to “Blackout” below!

3. Ricki-Lee

The ultimate Australian Idol alum, Ricki-Lee was voted out in 7th place, a huge shock to the Australian public who had pegged her to be the eventual winner. After being booted from Australian Idol she joined Australian supergroup Young Divas. Ricki left Young Divas and began her solo career, with hits such as “Can’t Touch It”, “Raining Diamonds”, “Do It Like That” and many more, her infectious dance bangers came to an end ion 2017 with her soulful and yet powerful vocal induced ballad “Not Too Late” Although we love Ricki’s vocals, we’d love something a bit more upbeat from her “Raining Diamonds” or “Come and Get In Trouble With Me” come to mind! Listen to “Come and Get In Trouble With Me” below!

4. Asta

Asta rose to prominence when her track "My Heart Is On Fire" won Triple J’s Unearthed High in 2012. In 2015, she released the song "Dynamite" featuring Australian rapper Allday, which reached number 66 on the Aria Singles Chart. She featured as the opening act for British musical act Ellie Goulding in 2015 and featured at music festivals such as The Plot in December 2015, Skullduggery (Adelaide) in February 2016 and Hyperfest (Perth) in February 2017. Her funky follow up singles would be perfect for the Eurovision stage! Listen to “Dynamite” below!

5. Nat Conway

More than just a powerhouse performer, Sydney born singer, songwriter, house music DJ and X-Factor Australia alum is an international underground superstar. With her soaring vocals and extremely modern tracks, Nat would be a perfect choice for Australia’s representative, after overcoming her severe stage fright on the X-Factor, Nat has conquered Ibiza and underground scenes with her tracks, “Everybody’s Free” and “Summer to Stay” unlike many electronic singers, Nat has an impressive live voice and live range. Just what Australia needs. A competent performer. Listen to her track “Everybody’s Free” below!

6. Nicole Millar

Effortlessly cool and catchy tunes are what Nicole Millar is all about, another alternative artist making waves in the Australian music industry two of her singles, “Tremble” and “Signals” have 6 million and 2 million streams on Spotify respectively. Her songs would give Australia a great performance piece to present to Europe or Asia, a concept that I feel Australia has been lacking in for the last couple of years. Listen to Nicole’s track “Tremble” below!

7. Vance Joy

Vance is perhaps one of the most promising new talents in Australia right now, everything he releases Australia loves and he has a very indie-pop sound that is universally recognised, I believe that Vance would be able to maintain Australia’s record of amazing results. Vance’s biggest hit by far is the charming single “Riptide” which was an instant hit in Australia, therefore spawning further hits “Mess is Mine”, “Georgia” and “Fire and the Flood” Vance is definitely someone people need to look out for as our next representative! Listen to his song “Mess is Mine” below!

8. Ivy Adara

Perhaps a lesser known choice of entry with only one single to her name Ivy Adara is quite a unknown force in the community but I do believe that with “City Lights” having massive success worldwide, Ivy could ride that trend right to Eurovision/Eurovision Asia. An X-Factor alum, her track “Famous” is a spellbindingly beautiful pop track, just like Blanche, Ivy has a quite alternative sounding voice. But it doesn’t stop her from serving us with some dark pop! Listen to “Famous” below!

9. Paulini

Paulini gained fame when she entered Australian Idol where she was shockingly eliminated, officially the second most shocking elimination in Australian Idol history only after Miss Ricki-Lee Coulter herself! Paulini does have a Eurovision connection having written for the Spanish diva Edurne! We would love to see Paulini make her own waves through the community with a nice pop banger that’s she is totally capable of delivering! Listen to her track “By My Side” below!

10. Delta Goodrem

Perhaps one of the most talked about Australian artists in the ESC community, Delta Goodrem. Delta got her start om popular Australian soap opera Neighbours, transferring her fame from the show into her singing career. Her first album “Innocent Eyes” sold millions of copies. Goodrem has since split from the Neighbours cast and battled Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Goodrem made her ultimate comeback in 2016 with the album Wings of The Wild, which dominated the Aussie music charts for quite some time! We hope that Delta eventually makes her way to Eurovision/Eurovision Asia! Listen to her song “The River” below!

11. Gabriella Cilmi

Melbourne-born, U.K.-based singer/songwriter Gabriella Cilmi has a smoky, whiskey soaked voice that belies her age and a feisty rock attitude that placed her on the inside fast track to pop stardom. Gabriella’s biggest hit to date is “Sweet About Me” which was released in early 2008, having gone relatively quiet since then, perhaps Eurovision/Eurovision Asia is what Gabriella Cilmi needs to come back into the spotlight of Australian stardom. We would love to see Gabriella Cilmi represent the land down under, perhaps with a song like “The Sting” listen to it below!

12. Sheppard

Sheppard are a six piece indie pop group from Brisbane originally formed between siblings Amy and George Sheppard the group slowly expanded to include their sister Emma and friends Jay, Michael and Dean. Their breakthrough came in the form of their single “Geronimo” which shot to number one in Australia and gained critical acclaim in Europe and abroad. The group have had multiple hit singles afterwards and continue to drive their indie pop influenced tracks into the hearts of Australians and people across the world! We’d love to see the six of them on stage in Eurovision/Eurovision Asia. Listen to their hit track “Geronimo” below!

13. Kita Alexander

Kita Alexander quit school to play in pubs in Port Macquarie. Using google, to find a manger, that manger eventually went on to connect her with producers for Lana Del Rey and fellow Aussies Sia and Empire of the Sun. Kita is influenced by Fleetwood Mac, Joni Mitchell, Cat Stevens, Patti Smith, all of which shaped her sound. Kita entrances the listener with her hauntingly beautiful voice. We would love to see Kita Alexander bring her thing to the Eurovision/Eurovision Asia stage! Listen to Kita Alexander’s song “Hotel” below!

14.Meg Mac

Meg Mac is known for her alternative and dark tunes, her songs have featured on hit US TV series such as “Girls” and “Grace and Frankie”. Meg could easily send something like “City Lights” or “Skeletons” her range is quite diverse, but her voice is the key to her success her deep and somewhat raspy tones are the main draw cards to her songs! Overall, I would love to see Meg Mac grace the stage for Australia either in Eurovision or Eurovision Asia! Listen to Meg Mac’s song “Never Be” below!

15. Vera Blue

Vera Blue is a lyrical singer/songwriter who combines her love of folk music with moody electronica. Having finished second place on The Voice Australia in 2013. Things have skyrocketed for Forbes born, Celia Pavey. Becoming an Aussie music staple, Vera Blue with her full-length album Perennial reaching number six on the Aria charts in Australia. And a number one hit feature on fellow wish list star Illy’s track Papercuts! Wed love to see her up on stage for Australia! Listen to her track "Regular Touch” below!

16. Illy

Illy is an Australian rap artist who is heavily featured in the Australian Pop/Rap scene. Currently his most pop orientated album Two Degrees, gave him his biggest hits yet, going to number one with Vera Blue and “Papercuts” and then again with Anne-Marie and “Catch 22” and the album was nominated for no fewer than six aria awards! Illy would definitely be a shake-up to Australia’s Eurovision/Eurovision Asia history, and the ESC scene itself with rap being severely underrated in the community of ESC! Listen to Illy’s track with worldwide superstar Anne-Marie “Catch 22” below!
