The caucus country that asked us to take flight with them last year in Kiev has revealed the first five hopefuls, wanting to take to the stage in Lisbon for Armenia!

Unlike last year where the acts performed cover versions of songs, this year Armenia has revamped their national selection, so that the hopeful performers come with their Eurovision song!

The first entry revealed is Amaliya Margaryan, with the song “Waiting for the Sun” our readers may recognise Amaliya, from last year’s Depi Evratesil. “Waiting For The Sun” is a sleepy ballad full of emotion, and an orchestra of strings! in the studio version it does not sound like a winner, but we are sure Amaliya will bring this song to life on stage! Music & Lyrics by Vahram Yanikyan and Amaliya Margaryan.

The next entrant revealed is Hayk Kasparov with the song “Enamo̕rame”. Hayk is giving us real Nadav ‘Golden Boy’ vibes with this song we feel like he would be able to get the crowd going when he performs this in Yerevan. This fun and modern song, will be sure to get the viewers at home bopping in their living rooms. The song is a very modern sounding song, with a strong traditional and cultural identity, the drop in the chorus is amazing! Music by Rafael Artesero Herrero Lyrics by Rafael Artesero Herrero, Jose Juan Santana Rodriguez.

The third act revealed is the group, Nemra, with the song “I’m a Liar” This English language song sounds quite dated, but we feel like that with the right staging it could get quite far in the selection! Although the lyrics are farce, we feel like Nemra has gone to the Kasia Mos school of rhyming! We aren’t hopeful that this act will win but it certainly adds to the diversity of the show! Music & Lyrics Van Yeghiazaryan.

The fourth act revealed is Suren Poghosyan with the song, The Voice. Suren has a great voice but perhaps if he sung in Armenian this song would sound better pronunciation is a little bit of a problem with this song, the instrumentation is great and straddles classical music with modern contemporary music. Although one does feel that the song is a VERY slow burner, it doesn’t have the instant likeability that some of the other acts do! However we must stress that with the right staging and atmosphere, Suren could absolutely kill it in Yerevan and possibly Lisbon! Music – Jonas Daniel Gladnikoff & Georgios Kalpakidis. Lyrics – Georgios Kalpadkidis & Natasha Turner.

The fifth and final act of the day revealed is Eurovision 2015 veteran Tamar Kaprelian, with the song “Poison” (Ari Ari). We heard that Jessica Mauboy has unfinished business with Eurovision, and we feel Tamar Kaprelian does too! This song absolutely kills it! Tamar takes influence from current mainstream music and infuses Armenia’s traditional instruments to produce an amazing track! This upbeat and infectious track is instantly memorable and leaves us wanting more! “Poison” harks back to the traditional dance tracks of Sirusho, Kalomira and Tina Karol, but this song does not feel dated in any way! Tamar has produced the best song of the five released so far and it will take a lot to top something of this calibre from an extraordinary artist like herself! Music – Tamar Kaprelian, Sebu Simonian, Harout Der Hovagimian, Ovsanna Khublaryan. Lyrics – Tamar Kaprelian, Sebu Simonian, Yana Karapetyan, Sanahin Papazin.

Armenia was represented by Artsvik in Kiev last year with the song “Fly with Me” she participated in the first semi final qualifying seventh before reaching 18 in the Grand Final.
