Is Helena Paparizou Cyprus’ Number One?

The rumour mill has gone into overdrive in the tiny Mediterranean island of Cyprus, as word begins to spread about Eurovision 2005 winner Helena Paparizou talking with Cyprus’ national broadcaster RIK, to sing for them in Lisbon at Eurovision 2018!
RIK’s initial Eurovision plans of a national selection appear to have been scrapped as Cyprus’ broadcaster plans bigger and better things with Miss Paparizou who herself is no stranger to the Eurovision stage!
Last year the broadcaster revealed that Cyprus would pick its singer through a national final held as a talent show, with the contestants performing cover songs
Cyprus is now the longest competing country without a win after Portugal’s win in 2017!
Helena Paparizou a Swedish-born Greek, first made her Eurovision debut in 2001 for Greece, with the group Antique and their song ‘Die For You’ which placed third in Denmark.
She then returned in 2005 in Kiev to take the trophy home for Greece, with her infectious dance song ‘My Number One’ taking the competition to Athens!

Not one to rest on her laurels Paparizou attempted to make a comeback in her birth-land Sweden competing in Melodifestivalen with her song ‘Survivor’ the song initially didn’t manage to go direkt till final, but was able to make it to Andra Chansen duels, which she was able to win to make the final where she eventually placed fourth.

If the rumours are true that Paparizou is considering a comeback with Cyprus it will mark the third time she has graced the Eurovision stage!
It is unknown at this stage that if Paparizou is chosen, whether she will work with Cyrpus’ chosen composer fellow Greek-Swede Alex “Alex P” Papaconstantinou.
Last year the broadcaster revealed that Cyprus would pick its singer through a national final held in January. It would be run as a talent show, with the contestants performing cover versions to allow their talents to be judged.
Hovig represented Cyprus in Kiev last year where he sang ‘Gravity’ for the Mediterranean island Hovig sang in semi final 1 where he qualified 5th to the final ahead of Australia and behind Belgium where he eventually placed 21st.
