Switzerland has been struck with some unfortunate luck recently at Eurovision, failing to qualify for the final in three consecutive years, Melanie Rene, Rykka and Timbelle were all unable to achieve a qualification for the notably neutral country.

Although it seems SRF, Switzerland’s national broadcaster is coming for blood, revamping ‘Entscheidungsshow’ their national selection and hiring the expert Eurovision mind Christopher Bjorkman to oversee the selection of the songs, putting an emphasis on choosing the ‘right song for the right singer’.

SRF have revealed the six singers and songs competing in the newly revamped Entscheidungsshow.

The first act revealed is ZiBBZ, the brother and sister duo will bring the song ‘Stones’ to the final, the edgy rock influenced song, gives us Alice Merton/Gin Wigmore vibes, and we LOVE it! Listening to ZiBBZ’s other material we found that ‘Stones’ is not too dissimilar to their backlog of songs. The heavy synth and pounding bass features heavily within the track given ‘Stones’ ample drive and immediacy. The chorus is addictive and easy to take in. This could easily win in Switzerland and with the right staging (Switzerland’s staging has been questionable at best in recent years) this could take Switzerland straight back to the final, so please Switzerland hire the creative genius of Sacha Jean-Baptise to do your staging to get you back to the final! Seeing how pop/rock songs have fared over recent years (YGL & Softengine) ZiBBZ could join the elite rockers of Eurovision!

The next song is from Entscheidungsshow veteran Chiara Dubey, with the song ‘Secrets & Lies’ the extremely raw, fragile and emotional opening leads to somewhat of a disappointing middle of the song lacking a chorus or any form of hook, but we love Chiara’s vocals and feel like she makes the song just with her voice! However we feel like this may suffer the same fate as her predecessors at Eurovision and fail to qualify for a fourth consecutive year in a row. Although Miss Dubey may pull off a Salvador Sobral and use the quiet and atmosphere of the song to get votes her way!

Alejandro was the next act revealed, Alejandro Reyes will sing the song ‘Compass’ in Zurich. ‘Compass’ sounds extremely current and mainstream pop, this track would not seem out of place on an album of Justin Bieber and the likes. The song does chop and change, making the song an interesting and danceable track. Alejandro oozes swagger and coolness, which in great comparison to the heat ‘Compass’ brings! Overall the song and singer are a great choice and would join ZiBBZ at the front of the pack in this selection! We wouldn’t be mad to see Alejandro represent Switzerland and celebrate diversity in Lisbon!

The next act revealed was Naeman, with the song ‘Kiss Me’. Overall it is a nice song. But one does feel that it does sound like something Liam Payne or and ex-1D member would have rejected… Naeman sings the song well, showing the full range of his voice to hit those higher notes in the chorus, the song does feel poppy and current but something isn’t quite there with the overall package, we feel Naeman could do a great job representing Switzerland, but the song would need a bit of a revamp and an upheaval lyrically as the lyrics of this song are quite dire. Overall not the best but not the worst.

The second last act to gain a place in Entscheidungsshow is Vanessa Iraci, who will sing the song ‘Redlights’.

Redlights is a mid-tempo pop track, Vanessa’s vocals are flawless on the track her breathiness in certain parts of the chorus are amazing. The chorus is great, up until she Trintje Oosterhuis’s the end of the chorus with the ‘ay,ay,ay’ if that part of the song was removed Vanessa would be sitting with ZiBBZ and Alejandro at the top of this review but unfortunately it is in the and that lowers the level of quality for ‘Redlights’ We must also mention that it could be a case of Eurovision 2015 ‘Warriors’ if Vanessa wins in Switzerland and Katrine Lukins wins in Latvia and we would really struggle to see Vannessa overcome Katrine in that battle. Overall a few minor tweaks and she could be in with a chance!

The final act to be revealed is Angie Ott with ‘A Thousand Times’. Angie’s introduction is powerful and assertive, this song gives us ‘Molitva’ and ‘Kewkba’ vibes in the instrumentation. If Angie is able to transfer her vocals to the live shows she can challenge for the win! ‘A Thousand Times’ is a deliciously string and drum heavy song which provides a great atmosphere! The key change MAKES this song! Some may call this song a “typical Eurovision song” but we believe that Angie can bring the magic to the stage in Switzerland and blow us all away! Overall one of the best in the national final!

Our final ranking of this national final is….

1) ZiBBZ – Stones

2) Angie Ott – A Thousand Times

3) Alejandro – Compass

4) Vannessa Iraci – Redlights

5) Chiara Dubey – Secrets and Lies

6) Naeman – Kiss Me

Switzerland was represented by the group Timebelle with lead vocalist Miruna singing the song ‘Apollo’ after winning Entscheidungsshow, ‘Apollo’ underwent a revamp and once released was praised by fans, Timbelle was heavily hyped to break Switzerland’s non-qualification streak, but when it came to the lives, the staging seemed to disappoint a lot of the viewers and they bowed out in the semi’s placing 12th in semi-final 2 behind Serbia and 29th overall
